From The Ground Up | Our Story
Here’s what we know to be true – traditionally, our cities have been imagined, designed, and built by men. While we can’t change the past, we can certainly steer change for the future.
City BuildHERS was developed by two women in Ottawa’s construction industry, Jennifer Cross and Kristen Buter. Brought together by a common goal, their objective is to connect women in all sectors that contribute to city building, and to form strong, supportive, strategic networks and partnerships with each other.
As a collective, we have an opportunity right now to create a vision for our cities that is inclusive and sustainable for all. This requires more women contributing their skills, experience, and expertise to our built environment in a meaningful way. Our aim is to eliminate the current silos and fragmented networks by focusing on highlighting and inter-connecting women that will set them up for success.
Connection
City BuildHERS is an event platform designed to feature dynamic women-led development projects. These events are meant to inspire and encourage others to be intentional with expanding their business networks to entice more women to lead and participate in the building of our cities.
You can’t be what you can’t see, and so we have created events that seek to uncover ambitious City BuildHERS to share their acumen, journeys, and project insights. Our focus will always be to shine a light on projects with women at the helm.
